Are prebiotics the same as probiotics

Not the same. Probiotics are a kind of microorganisms that can survive in the human intestinal tract and play a beneficial role in the human body, help gastrointestinal peristalsis, promote the decomposition of core nutrients such as proteins, fats, sugars, digestion and absorption of live bacteria, some probiotics also have the function of synthesizing vitamin B complex. The main types of probiotics are Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Enterococcus and Streptococcus. Prebiotics refer to organic substances that are not digested and absorbed by the host but can selectively promote the metabolism and proliferation of beneficial bacteria in the body, thus improving the health of the host, helping to change the pH value of the gastrointestinal tract, promoting the growth and reproduction of probiotics, maintaining the health of the gastrointestinal tract, and enhancing the gastrointestinal tract’s ability to digest and absorb. Common prebiotics include oligofructose, inulin, oligogalactose and lactulose. It is recommended to choose probiotics and prebiotics under professional guidance to avoid abuse.
