How do you check early for a diminished or absent hug reflex?

The embrace reflex is an intrinsic reflex of the spinal cord, which is an unconditioned reflex. The lack of this embrace reflex indicates that the child’s brain nervous system is not mature, and that there may be damage or lesions in the nervous system, intracranial hemorrhage, or other intracranial diseases. With the development of the higher center of the cerebral cortex and gradually disappear. So how do we find out if a newborn has a brain injury early? Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (ABR) is a more sensitive and objective indicator of brainstem damage, it is the electrical activity of nerve impulses induced by acoustic stimulation in the auditory conduction pathway of the brainstem, and it can objectively and sensitively reflect the function of the central nervous system, and it can be influenced by any lesion or damage involving the auditory pathway of the cochlea to the relevant structures of the brainstem, when there are no clinical signs and symptoms of minor damage to the brainstem, there is already a change in the ABR. The ABR is a short acoustic sound delivered by a headset. ABR is 6~7 positive waves recorded within 10ms after short acoustic stimulation by headphones: wave I is the action potential of the auditory nerve, wave II is originated from the cochlear nerve nucleus, wave III is from the olivary complex nucleus of the pontine plexus and the rhomboid, wave IV and wave V represent the lateral thalamus and hypothalamus nucleus of the midbrain, and wave VI and VII are the waveforms of action potentials of the geniculate body in the thalamus and the auditory radiations. Wave Ⅰ ~ wave Ⅴ and other first five waves are the most stable, of which wave Ⅴ has the highest amplitude, which can be used as a sign to identify the ABR waves. Wave Ⅰ ~ wave Ⅴ inter-wave latency (IPL) is the central auditory conduction time of the brainstem segment, which also represents the integrity of the brainstem function.Abnormal ABR results, combined with the clinical results of the comprehensive analysis, it is recommended that regular review.
