Hepatitis B Surface Antibodies, referred to as Hepatitis B Surface Antibodies, are antibodies produced by the body against the Hepatitis B Surface Antigen, and are a type of protective antibody that may be produced when a person is infected with the Hepatitis B Virus or after receiving the Hepatitis B Vaccine.
After infection with the virus, the body’s immune cells will capture the virus, then will recognize the virus, and in order to fight against the virus invading the body’s normal tissue cells, the body will produce targeted antibodies to bind the corresponding antigen. In the case of the hepatitis B virus, the body produces hepatitis B surface antibodies to neutralize the hepatitis B surface antigen.
Positive hepatitis B surface antibody does not mean that the patient is infected with hepatitis B. It is possible that the patient has been infected with hepatitis B in the past and has been cured; it is also possible that the patient has been vaccinated with hepatitis B vaccine in the past, and the body has developed protection, so it shows a positive result. The appearance of hepatitis B surface antibody often means that the body has immunity against hepatitis B virus, which is the protective antibody produced by the body against hepatitis B virus.
