The possible consequences of choledocholithiasis without surgery include: inducing biliary tract infection, damaging the liver, inducing biliary pancreatitis, increasing the risk of bile duct cancer, and so on. 1. Induce biliary tract infection: choledocholithiasis can cause poor drainage of bile, stagnation in the biliary system, easily secondary biliary tract infection. Acute cholangitis is a critical disease in surgery, especially acute purulent obstructive cholangitis can easily develop into systemic infection and endanger the patient’s life. 2. Damage to the liver: choledocholithiasis causes a large amount of bile to stagnate in the biliary system, and prolonged bile stimulation can damage liver cells and even lead to cholestatic cirrhosis. In addition, biliary tract infection can also spread upward to the liver and even form intrahepatic abscess. 3. Induce biliary pancreatitis: choledocholithiasis can be embedded in the duodenal jugular causing blockage of pancreatic duct, and pancreatic reflux back to the pancreas can induce biliary pancreatitis. 4. Increase the risk of cancer: some studies show that about 1/3 of cholangiocarcinoma patients have bile duct stones in combination, and about 5-10% of choledocholithiasis patients will develop into cholangiocarcinoma, which may be related to the long-term stimulation of the bile duct mucosa by the stones. If choledocholithiasis is not treated in time, it is likely to induce serious complications and even jeopardize patients’ lives, so it is recommended that patients go to the hospital as soon as possible and get appropriate treatment in time to avoid serious complications.
