Chinese medicine can treat solid lung nodules, especially in the early stage of the disease, but the specific medication needs to be evaluated by a professional physician before prescribing. Chinese medicine believes that the cause of lung nodules lies in the attack of external evils on the chest and lungs, stagnation of qi and phlegm, and paralysis of the lungs and collaterals, which results in the formation of nodules. There are 3 etiologic mechanisms: deficiency as the main cause, phlegm as the cause, and qi stagnation (the body’s gases do not run smoothly). Chinese medicine also believes that overwork, irrational diet, emotional disorders, and exogenous influences may cause symptoms of qi stagnation and water stagnation, which leads to phlegm and qi stagnation, coupled with prolonged obstruction of blood flow and stagnation, which then invades the lungs and chest, stagnates in the lungs and chest, and ultimately leads to paralysis of the lungs and the lung channels and develops into nodules. Clinical experiments have shown that the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine formulas that benefit the lungs, invigorate blood circulation, resolve phlegm and disperse nodules is better in the treatment of low and medium-risk nodules and single solid nodules. The use of medication should be in accordance with the doctor’s prescription.
