HPV infection alone is a transient manifestation and does not cause cervical pain; it is only when high-risk HPV infection persists (more than one year, or repeated infection after HPV conversion) that there is a risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia or even cervical cancer, a condition that may result in cervical pain.
