Total bilirubin is the sum of direct bilirubin and indirect bilirubin. Often some liver disease or biliary system disease may cause an increase in indirect bilirubin, or direct bilirubin, and an increase in one of the two will cause an increase in total bilirubin. If the total bilirubin is high, it can be temporarily observed. Then, we can clarify the cause, whether it is caused by liver disease, bile duct stones or other hepatobiliary system diseases. After the cause is clearly identified, liver-protective treatment can be carried out, and often the high bilirubin can be restored to normal values.
