Soft tissue masses are usually tumors, also known as occupying lesions, including benign lipomas or fibromas, which occur mainly on the surface of the body as localized raised masses and can be associated with painful symptoms. In addition, some patients may have localized masses due to enlargement of surface lymph nodes, most commonly in the neck and clavicle, which can be caused by malignant tumors of the respiratory system or metastatic malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Local lymph node excision biopsy can be performed to further define the pathological type, which can guide the clinical treatment, usually requiring systemic intravenous chemotherapy and local radiation therapy to control the tumor progression.
