Salt water at home is usually not acceptable for sterilizing wounds.
Home saline is neither sterile nor prepared to a proper concentration. If home saline is prepared at too low a concentration, it will not be able to have an antiseptic effect; if it is prepared at too high a concentration, it may cause infection or additional damage to the wound, as well as significant pain, so it is not recommended to use home saline to disinfect wounds.
If the patient has a wound on the body, it is recommended to use 0.9% saline to clean the wound under the guidance of a doctor. This concentration of saline is isotonic with tissue cells and will not irritate the wound and cause pain, and the saline does not contain pathogenic bacteria and is able to wash away the dirt on the wound. During treatment, the wound should be kept away from water as much as possible to prevent infection.
In case of trauma, it is recommended to go to the nearest regular hospital for examination and professional debridement and disinfection treatment by the doctor.
