A child’s crooked neck needs to be treated accordingly depending on the different causes. For example, postural strabismus should be corrected in time, and muscular strabismus can be treated with physiotherapy or surgery.
1. Postural tilt: often caused by side lying or poor head posture, for example, excessive tension in the neck and shoulder muscles during sleep may lead to this phenomenon. It mainly occurs in the morning, and the child will appear that the head will be tilted to one side, resulting in restricted movement and inability to rotate the neck freely.
The neck can be massaged by holding the child’s forehead with one hand and gently rotating the head forward then side to side with the other hand. After rotation, shake the head clockwise and counterclockwise for relief.
2. Myoclonus: It is mainly caused by neck muscle lesions, muscle deformation and contracture as well as head strain, which can be felt as a lump in the neck and limited neck movement.
Most patients can be restored to normal by manipulative massage and physical therapy. If the child is ineffective after the above treatments, surgery can be taken. Surgery can relax the spastic muscles, and when the muscles on both sides are symmetrical, the crooked neck will gradually improve.
If your child has a crooked neck, you should go to the hospital in time to have a relevant examination to clarify the cause and then do the relevant treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
