How many years can you live without treatment for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis?

Multidrug-resistant TB can live anywhere from a few months to a few years without treatment, depending on the severity of the disease. Multidrug-resistant TB without treatment may cause death in as little as one month if the disease is severe with severe infections and respiratory failure. If the lesions are small and progress slowly, survival can be as long as several years. Some patients with multidrug-resistant TB can be cured with regular treatment, which requires a combination of multiple antituberculosis drugs depending on the drug sensitivity results of the infecting TB bacteria. Patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis may have a longer treatment period and higher treatment costs, but if they can adhere to the treatment, most of the patients can still get a better therapeutic effect.
