Eyes that are painful and swollen may be related to blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis or conjunctivitis.
1. Blepharitis: also known as granuloma, mostly caused by staphylococcal infection, the affected eye shows acute inflammation manifestations such as redness, swelling, heat, pain, etc. If it causes external blepharitis, it can be located at the eyelid margin at the root of eyelashes, and there can be a hard nodule with obvious tenderness on palpation.
2. Blepharoceles: often called chalazion, can be caused by blepharitis or chronic conjunctivitis that leads to the obstruction of the outlet of the blepharoplasty gland and retention of glandular secretions, irritation of the surrounding tissues caused by the upper and lower eyelids can occur, and can form a round lump under the skin, with mild pain.
3. Conjunctivitis: The occurrence can be associated with microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, chlamydia, as well as physical stimulation, chemical damage and other etiological factors, the common symptoms can be conjunctival congestion, edema or eye stinging pain, photophobia, tearing and so on.
