Pharyngeal sensory abnormalities syndrome

Abnormal sensation in the pharynx refers to all kinds of abnormal sensations in the pharynx except for pain. In Chinese medicine, it is called “plum kernel qi”. It is more common between 30 and 50 years old, and its incidence is higher in women than in men. Patients feel an obstruction in the throat or the midline area of the neck or the back of the nose, or a burning sensation, itching, pressure, adhesion, etc., or repeated dry cough, or coughing sputum, but swallowing and eating are not hindered. Patients who have had the disease for many years may have symptoms such as discomfort in multiple areas of the head and neck, insomnia, anxiety, impatience, and nervousness. Currently, it is believed that abnormal sensation in the pharynx is associated with the following factors: 1. various types of inflammatory diseases of the pharynx, larynx or esophagus, as well as benign or malignant tumors, etc. 2. digestive tract diseases, cardiovascular system diseases, lung diseases, diaphragmatic hernia, etc. 3. Iron deficiency, autonomic dysfunction, long-term chronic stimulation (such as tobacco, alcohol, dust and chemical drugs), endocrine disorders during menopause, etc. 4, mental factors and functional diseases There are no organic diseases of the pharynx, trachea and esophagus, but the pharyngeal dysfunction is mainly caused by the dysfunction of the brain. Principles of examination and treatment Firstly, exclude organic lesions In patients with pharyngeal heterosensitivity, organic factors should be considered first, especially to exclude the possibility of malignant tumors to avoid misdiagnosis. Treatment should be personalized according to the examination results.
