There is no absolute best time to take zinc and calcium supplements, but it is generally a good idea to take calcium supplements at night and zinc supplements during the day, calcium supplements at night before bed and zinc supplements in the morning until lunch. Zinc supplementation in the morning is conducive to absorption, generally to be supplemented before lunch, infants to 4 months and then zinc supplementation. Calcium supplements are more effective in the evening because blood calcium maintenance in the latter part of the night is dependent on bone calcium release, so calcium supplements or dairy products taken before bedtime are effective in preventing the transfer of calcium from bone to blood. Although calcium and zinc can enhance each other’s absorption, taking them at the same time can also produce mutual inhibition, and there should be at least 2 hours between them. There is no absolute requirement for the timing of zinc and calcium, but you can choose the appropriate time in conjunction with your own schedule and your doctor’s advice.
