A cervical cannula, as it is called, is a flexible tube, about the thickness of a urinary catheter, that is inserted into the patient’s cervix. The cervical cannula is used for two main purposes: 1) for abortions between 70 and 90 days of pregnancy, where the cervical cannula is used to inject Levano into the patient’s uterine cavity to achieve an abortion. 2) The cervical cannula is also used to prepare the patient for certain surgical procedures such as hysteroscopic evacuation and hysteroscopic electrosurgery. The patient will use misoprostol at the same time as the cervical cannula, mainly to soften the cervix. This makes it easier to dilate the cervix and less likely to tear the cervix during the procedure.
