Diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes and self-monitoring of blood glucose

Since the adoption of new diagnostic criteria, the current prevalence of gestational diabetes in China is about 17.5%, although of course there are regional differences. However the majority of them are gestational diabetes found after pregnancy with normal pre-pregnancy blood glucose. Therefore, it is recommended that all pregnant women should have a diabetes screening test, also known as the glucose tolerance test (OGTT), during the 24-28 weeks of pregnancy, and three blood glucose values should not be higher than 5.1-10.0-8.5 mmol/L, respectively. If only one fasting blood glucose is a little bit higher than normal, you can recheck the fasting blood glucose separately in the nearest hospital, and if the recheck result is normal, close monitoring of blood glucose can be done. For pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes, they should first receive dietary guidance from a professional nutritionist at a nutrition clinic, then supplement with appropriate exercise and sports, and monitor their blood glucose. The specific blood glucose monitoring method is to monitor the morning fasting blood glucose, 30 minutes before three meals and 2 hours after meals (counting from the first bite) blood glucose 7 times, among which the fasting and three meals before blood glucose is not higher than 5.3mmol/L, and 2 hours after meals blood glucose is not higher than 6.7mmol/L is considered to meet the standard, and record in detail with the diet and exercise, and go to the clinic to see the obstetrician after a week of recording. After a week of recording, go to the clinic to see the obstetrician to decide whether the diet and exercise need to be adjusted according to the blood sugar situation, and if necessary, use insulin to control blood sugar.
