Abdominal radiographs are X-ray pictures of the abdomen taken without the introduction of any contrast, and show differences in high and low densities when the organs are calcified for various reasons, or when there are X-ray impermeable foreign bodies, stones, or free gas in the abdominal cavity. Plain abdominal radiographs show the condition of the abdominal organs and can be used to check for calcifications, stones, and intestinal obstruction in the abdomen.
1. Calcification: When there is a small lesion in the organ, there is inflammation and exudation, and after self-healing, there is a small scar left in the organ, which is shown on the photograph due to the inconsistency of the density with the normal tissue of the normal organ.
2. Stones: due to metabolic, anatomical and dietary factors, the organs have stones, which are solid and have a higher density than the normal abdominal organs, and therefore can be shown on abdominal plain films.
3. Intestinal obstruction: In patients with intestinal obstruction, there is a lot of free gas in the stomach and intestines, and the difference is due to the fact that the gas is less dense than the tissue of the abdominal cavity.
In addition, plain films of the abdomen can show the morphology of the abdominal organs, so as to understand the position and morphology of the normal physiological organs of the patient.
If abdominal discomfort occurs, it is recommended to go to the hospital first to do abdominal plain film examination, clear diagnosis and timely treatment.
