The correct name for mannitol is mannitol injection. There are differences in usage and dosage between adults and pediatrics in treating different symptoms. 1. Adults: diuretic, 1~2g/kg according to body weight, 250ml intravenous drip with 20% solution; treatment of cerebral edema, intracranial hypertension and glaucoma, 0.25~2g/kg, 15%~25% concentration in 30~60 minutes intravenous drip, the frail patients reduced to 0.5g/kg; pre-renal and renal oliguria, 0.2g/kg, 20% concentration in 3~5 minutes intravenous drip. Prevention of acute tubular necrosis, first given 12.5-25g, intravenous drip within 10 minutes, no special and then give 50g, intravenous drip within 1 hour; drugs, poisons poisoning, 50g, 20% solution IV; intestinal preparation, 4-8 hours before surgery, 10% solution 1000ml in 30 minutes orally. 2. Pediatrics: diuretic, 0.25-2g/kg by weight, 15%-20% solution for 2-6 hours intravenously; treatment of cerebral edema, intracranial hypertension and glaucoma, 1-2g/kg by weight, 15%-20% concentration solution intravenously within 30-60 minutes, and reduced to 0.5g/kg for frail patients. Prevention of prerenal oliguria and renal oliguria, 0.2g/kg by body weight, 15% to 25% concentration IV over 3 to 5 minutes; drug and poison poisoning, 2g/kg by body weight, 5% to 10% solution IV. Adverse reactions are water and electrolyte disorders, edema, dizziness, thirst, osmotic nephropathy.
