What’s wrong with your baby’s positive fecal occult blood?

For a baby with positive occult blood in the stool, consider whether there is gastrointestinal bleeding. A positive fecal occult blood test can be found when the gastrointestinal bleeding is greater than 5 ml. However, it does not necessarily mean that the baby is bleeding from the digestive tract, but it can also be positive due to dietary factors, such as eating pig liver and other iron-rich foods. It is only accurate and reliable to stop taking such foods for more than 3 days and then go back for a fecal occult blood test. If your baby has taken certain medications, such as iron supplements, which can cause a positive fecal occult blood test, it is a false positive and not a real GI bleeding, so don’t be too nervous. Of course, if you consider that your baby has positive fecal occult blood and gastrointestinal bleeding after ruling out false positives, you should see a pediatric gastroenterology clinic as soon as possible for further examination, confirmation and timely treatment.
