Pain in the face can be caused by several things: 1. Trigeminal neuralgia. From the back of the ear there is a nerve pulling on the face, resulting in discharge-like pain throughout the face. The pain occurs irregularly, but when it occurs the pain is more intense and is not accompanied by redness or swelling of the face; 2. It may be caused by the soft tissues around the face, which are infected. For example, inflammation of the gums, or facial sores, as well as sebaceous cysts appear to be infected and lead to local redness, swelling, heat, pain; 3, may be caused by parotitis. There is obvious redness, swelling, heat and pain in the parotid gland, which is usually caused by viral infection; 4. There may be enlarged lymph nodes, which leads to pain in the face. Generally it is upper respiratory tract infections, such as acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, acute bronchitis affects the lymph nodes in the jaw, causing their enlargement, resulting in swelling and pain in the face.
