What’s the best way to reduce edema?



There is no absolute best way to reduce edema, if it is physiological edema can be eliminated through appropriate exercise, light diet. For pathologic edema, there are different treatments for different causes of edema, and individualized treatment is best for patients.

Pathological edema mainly includes cardiogenic edema, nephrogenic edema, hepatic edema and malnutrition edema, which can be treated by diet and medication.

1. Cardiogenic edema: edema of the whole body caused by cardiac failure, which is usually extended to the whole body from the feet, elimination of this kind of edema requires treatment of the primary disease, and combined with diuretics to promote the discharge of sodium and water.

2. Nephrogenic edema: seen in all kinds of nephritis and nephropathy, usually applying diuretics such as furosemide, spironolactone, hydrochlorothiazide, etc. Most patients may have hypoproteinemia. Most patients may have hypoproteinemia, and need to supplement albumin appropriately.

3. Hepatogenic edema: cirrhosis is the most common cause of hepatogenic edema, and it is recommended to do hepatoprotective treatment and diuretic treatment.

4. Malnutrition edema: long-term nutritional deficiencies, protein loss due to hypoproteinemia, need to be combined with dietary modification, eat more protein-rich foods, such as milk, soy, chicken, fish soup and so on.
