The time for boiling Chinese medicines is generally based on the properties of the medicines. Generally speaking, the time required for decoction of antidepressants and lighter-textured medicines is shorter, about 15 minutes; the time required for decoction of tonic medicines and heavy-textured Chinese medicines is longer, about 30 minutes. 1. Antidepressants: most of the antidepressants are pungent and light, and should not be decocted for a long time, otherwise the active ingredients will evaporate, thus reducing the efficacy. Generally use martial arts fire decoction, time should be short, boiling and then decoction can be 10 ~ 15 minutes. 2. tonic drugs: tonic drugs generally need to use the fire to slowly decoction, time should be long, after boiling and continue to decoction for about 30 minutes, so as to better decoction of the active ingredients. Most of the light-textured drugs have a short decoction time, such as peppermint, mulberry leaves, etc.; heavy-textured mineral drugs also have a longer decoction time, such as dragon bones, natural copper, etc. Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions and not to take the decoction arbitrarily, so as not to reduce the efficacy and delay the condition.
