Herpes zoster usually takes 2-3 weeks to heal gradually after regular treatment. The main clinical manifestation of herpes zoster is the appearance of clusters of blisters in a band-like distribution on the skin. Herpes zoster occurs unilaterally, or bilaterally if the immune system is low, and is associated with pain and numbness. The local virus will be suppressed in about 10 days after the patient chooses to use a combination of antiviral oral and topical medications. However, it takes about 3 weeks for the patient’s self-conscious neurological symptoms and changes in skin appearance to disappear completely. In addition, the recovery time is relatively longer in elderly people with lower immunity, and some of them can last for 2-3 months. Patients are advised to take oral B vitamins along with antiviral drugs for nerve nutrition and adjunctive treatment.
