Also known as cardamom, it is a perennial herb of the ginger family, Cardamomaceae, and functions to resolve dampness and move qi, warm and stop vomiting (treating vomiting caused by stomach cold by warming the spleen and stomach), and appetizing and eliminating food. It is used for treating dampness and stagnation of qi (due to the obstruction of dampness causing the body’s qi to be unsmooth), disharmony between the spleen and stomach, distension and fullness of the epigastrium (abdomen), lack of desire for food and drink, the first signs of dampness and warmth (caused by the feeling of dampness and heat to cause warmth and sickness), cold and dampness and vomiting, tightness in the chest and lack of hunger, vomiting caused by cold in the stomach, and accumulation of food and digestion. It can be used to treat malaria, vomiting, cold and heat in the spleen. Cardamom fruit can be used medicinally, pungent flavor, warm nature. It belongs to the lung, spleen and stomach meridians. It can tonify lung qi, benefit the spleen and stomach, regulate vital energy, and collect off qi. It should not be taken by people with yin deficiency and blood dryness (deficiency of yin fluid and dryness and heat in the blood) but without cold and dampness.
