Shaoyang Disease is the name of the disease, which is one of the six meridian diseases, caused by evil heat in the half-expression and half-li. The disease is characterized by bitter mouth, dry throat, dizziness, cold and heat in and out of the body, bitter fullness in the chest and hypochondrium (feeling distended and uncomfortable in the front and sides of the chest), upset and nausea, hectic appetite for food and drink, and a stringy pulse. Shaoyang disease can be treated with Xiao Chaihu Tang. Xiao Chaihu Tang can be used to treat the symptoms of typhoid fever and shaoyang (one of the six meridians of typhoid fever, which is between the exterior and the interior), which are characterized by cold and fever, bitter fullness in the chest, and silent desire to eat and drink; and the symptoms of heat entering the blood chamber, which are characterized by typhoid fever of the woman (a fever caused by feeling the cold evil), the interruption of menstrual flow, and the episodes of cold and heat sometimes, and so on.
