Urinary Retention Symptoms

Symptoms of urinary retention are categorized into acute and chronic urinary retention. Acute urinary retention is characterized by difficulty in urination and lower abdominal discomfort. Chronic urinary retention is characterized by frequent urination and incomplete urination. 1. Acute urinary retention: manifested as sudden difficulty in urination, which is more painful. There will be pain and discomfort in the lower abdomen and abdominal distension. 2. Chronic urinary retention: it often manifests itself as increased frequency of urination and voiding, weak or interrupted urine flow, obvious urge to urinate, incomplete urination, and mild discomfort in the lower abdomen. If the bladder is overfilled, a small amount of urine will flow out involuntarily. In a few cases, this can be accompanied by back pain, fever, generalized weakness, lack of appetite, nausea, and even uremia. It is important to seek prompt medical attention if you suspect urinary retention.
