Can a 5-year-old child with 100 diopters of astigmatism heal on its own?

Generally, astigmatism of 100 degrees in a 5-year-old child cannot be cured on its own, and the child can correct astigmatism and improve vision through prescription of glasses. Astigmatism is mainly due to the corneal meridian asymmetry, resulting in the refractive system of the patient’s eyes formed by the dispersion of the spot, resulting in blurred vision. It is usually caused by irregular development of the cornea and therefore cannot be cured on its own. Patients can only improve their vision by wearing glasses or undergoing vision correction surgery. Children at the age of 5 are at a critical stage of visual development. An astigmatism of 100 diopters may affect the child’s vision, and the child may be able to correct the astigmatism and improve his or her vision by wearing eyeglasses. In adulthood, if the child does not want to wear glasses, surgical correction of astigmatism, such as corneal laser surgery, is possible. Parents are advised to bring their children with astigmatism to regular hospitals to assess their condition and choose the appropriate treatment according to the doctor’s instructions.
