Surgical treatment: At present, the main treatment is Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), commonly known as a “pacemaker,” which has become an effective treatment for intermediate to advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD). The DBS procedure has become an effective treatment for PD. It has been more than 10 years since this therapy was first used in China. Indications for DBS therapy: 1. Primary PD. 2. Good results with compound levodopa. 3, the efficacy has been significantly reduced or there are severe motor fluctuations or isokinetic disorder, affecting the quality of life. 4, except dementia and serious psychiatric diseases, etc. Prof. Liang Zhanhua pointed out that surgery can be considered for patients with significant effect of early drug treatment and significantly reduced effect of long-term treatment, as well as the development of heterokinesia. It is important to emphasize that surgery only improves the symptoms, but does not cure the disease, and post-operative medication is still needed, but the dose can be reduced. The indications for surgery must be strictly controlled by a specialized Parkinson’s surgeon, and Parkinson’s superimposed syndrome is a contraindication to surgery. Surgery is not recommended for patients who are in the early stage and have demonstrated efficacy with drug therapy. In addition, the first successful DBS surgery in Dalian was completed on December 10, 2014 at the Parkinson’s Specialized Ward of the Department of Neurology, Dalian Medical University. It is hoped that this advancement will bring good news to many Parkinson’s patients in Dalian and Liaonan area, which will be reported in detail one after another.
