The main difference between Kidney Qi insufficiency and Kidney Yang deficiency lies in the different clinical manifestations. Kidney Qi insufficiency manifests in favor of Qi deficiency, while Kidney Yang deficiency manifests with more focus on Yang deficiency.
1. Kidney Qi insufficiency includes Kidney Qi non-fixation and Kidney non-containment of Qi (dysfunction of the kidneys that prevents the incorporation of gas).
(1) Kidney qi insufficiency refers to a deficiency of kidney qi manifested by the failure of the kidneys to store sperm and the failure of the kidneys in sealing and hiding the sperm. Symptoms include seminal emission, spermatorrhea, premature ejaculation or frequent nocturia, enuresis, urinary incontinence and so on. The treatment is based on fixing the kidney and astringing the essence.
(2) Kidney non-containment refers to the pathology of qi and kidney qi deficiency and inability to take in lung qi. It can lead to shortness of breath, asthma, wheezing and sweating when moving, inspiratory difficulties such as breathing out too much and breathing in too little, and a vague and floating face with a thin and weak pulse or a vague and floating rootless pulse. It is mostly seen in chronic cardiopulmonary insufficiency. The treatment is to replenish the kidney and nourish the qi.
2. Kidney yang deficiency is manifested by lumbar and knee soreness and cold pain, cold limbs and fear of cold, facial color, white, mental depression, diarrhea (diarrhea before dawn), diarrhea for a long time, men can see impotence and spermatorrhea, and women can see uterine cold and infertility, etc., with a pale tongue, white moss and slippery, and a weak and slow pulse. Treatment is recommended to tonify kidney yang.
