Shimonoseki is located on the face of the human body and is part of the foot Yangming Stomach meridian within acupuncture. It is one of two acupoints, one on each side, in the lower part of the zygomatic arch, which is depressed when the mouth is shut and raised when the mouth is opened. Clinically this point is commonly used for the treatment of toothache, facial palsy, facial muscle spasm, etc. Some patients can be treated for rhinitis, sinusitis, and other nasal diseases by deep pricking at this point. Generally this point is safer for deep pricking treatment.
