Patchouli and Ten Drops of Water Usage

Patchouli Zhengqi Shui is used for external wind-cold and other symptoms, and has the effect of relieving the surface and resolving dampness (relieving the evils of external sensation and dispelling the dampness in the body), etc. Ten Drops of Water strengthens the stomach and dispels heatstroke, and is used for symptoms caused by heatstroke. Hau Xiang Zheng Qi Shui is composed of Hou Pu (made of ginger) and Cang Zhu. Its effects are to relieve surface and dampness, regulate qi and zhong (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach to make the spleen and stomach function smoothly), and is used for colds and flu caused by external wind-cold and internal dampness stagnation, with symptoms such as faintness and heaviness of the headache, chest and diaphragm lumps and tightness, distension and pain in the epigastrium (abdomen), and vomiting and diarrhea. The adverse reactions of Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Shui include intestinal obstruction, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, pediatric hypoglycemia, drug rash, purpura, shock, mild pharyngeal mucous membrane congestion and asthma, ethanol intoxication, and postpartum hyperhidrosis. Contraindications are not to be taken for colds and flu, and not to be taken for those who are suffering from yin deficiency and fire (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, and hyperactive fire), and not to be used together with cephalosporins and other drugs that have adverse reactions with alcohol. Ten drops of water consists of camphor, cumin, eucalyptus oil, cinnamon, cayenne pepper and so on. It is effective in strengthening the stomach and dispelling heatstroke, and is used for gastrointestinal discomfort, dizziness and nausea caused by heatstroke. The adverse reactions of Ten Drops of Water include scarlet fever-like rash, contact dermatitis, accidental eye injury, etc. Contraindications are not to be taken by pregnant women. It is not advisable to take tonic Chinese medicine together.
