If your varicocele recurs after surgery, you may choose to undergo surgery again. Recurrence after varicocele surgery may be partly due to incomplete ligation during surgery. Others may be due to the fact that the varicocele was not removed, but simply ligated, resulting in a recurrence. Another part of the recurrence is due to the presence of certain ectopic vessels or other reflux pathways in the patient. The chances of recurrence are increased if the patient continues to do a lot of strenuous exercise or maneuvers that increase the intra-abdominal pressure after the surgery. After recurrence of varicocele, reoperation can be considered. Re-surgery can be done laparoscopically, which allows the vein to be re-ligated again at a higher level. Microsurgery can also be used to locate all the spermatic veins in the groin or scrotum and treat them separately. It is recommended that the patient actively go to a regular hospital and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment, in order to strive for a speedy recovery.
