The main cause of sleepy cough in children is a symptom caused by rhinitis or laryngitis. When a child has rhinitis, sleeping causes snot to reflux into the throat, and while sleeping, the nerves become less sensitive, so that the cough is not very frequent. When they wake up, they feel a foreign body in their throat, and some of them have phlegm, so they have an involuntary cough. In this case, treatment can be given for rhinitis and pharyngitis. For rhinitis, leukotriene receptor blockers, such as cisplatin, can be used. For pharyngitis, the main treatment is to use drugs that clear heat and benefit the throat, such as silver pellets for children.
