Chaihu Shu Liver Pill is composed of Chaihu, Poria, Fenghuang, Mentha piperita, Citrus aurantium, Paeonia lactiflora, Platycodon grandiflorum, Fragrant ferns, Perilla pedunculata, Scutellaria baicalensis, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Cardamom, Licorice, and so on, and its effect is to relieve liver qi, eliminate flatulence and alleviate pain. It is used for treating chest and epigastric congestion and discomfort caused by liver qi non-compliance, food accumulation (indigestion of food and accumulation of food in the stomach), vomiting and generalized acidity. Its adverse reactions and contraindications are not clear at present. It can nourish yin and blood, tonify the heart and tranquilize the mind, and is suitable for palpitation, insomnia, sores on the mouth and tongue, and heat in the hands, feet and heart caused by deficiency of yin and blood, and restlessness of the mind. This formula has more yin nourishing products and should not be taken for a long period of time for those with weak spleen and stomach, poor appetite and unsound stools. Both Chaihu Shu Liver Pill and Tianwang Xintan contain Angelica sinensis, Platycodon grandiflorus and Glycyrrhiza glabra, which may lead to overdosage of the same drug when taken together, and therefore it is not recommended to take them together.
