Bitter endive refers to endive, which can be used to treat sore boils and poisons, sore throat, acute bacillary dysentery, hemorrhoids, intestinal inflammation, acute appendicitis, lung abscesses, epistaxis, hemoptysis, leaf blood, blood in urine, blood in stools, and metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or spotting and dripping). It is the whole grass of endive, a plant of the genus Chicory in the family of Asteraceae, which is cold in nature and bitter in taste. Its medicinal effects include clearing away heat and removing toxins (clearing away heat and toxicity in the body), inducing dampness and draining pus, and cooling and stopping bleeding (cooling and moisturizing the blood and preventing hemorrhage). It can be used internally as a decoction, or as a fresh juice. External use should be appropriate amount, decoction of fumigation, or fresh products pounded compress. The contraindications to the use of endive and adverse drug reactions are not clear. Specific medication matters should be carried out under the guidance of specialized physicians, should not be self-medication, so as not to delay the condition.
