Can I have my wisdom teeth extracted without taking dental x-rays?

It is important to take dental radiographs for wisdom teeth removal because they are deep and in the lower teeth they are very close to the mandibular nerve canal, sometimes even located right on the edge of it. If a panoramic radiograph is not taken, there is a high risk of damage to the mandibular nerve during the extraction process. Moreover, the shape of the root of the tooth can be seen through the X-ray, and CT is needed for advance diagnosis if necessary. For wisdom teeth in the upper jaw, dental radiographs must also be taken. This is because the wisdom teeth in the upper jaw are likely to be close to the maxillary sinus, and perforation of the maxillary sinus is likely to occur during the removal of the wisdom teeth. Their need for preoperative diagnostic evaluation through x-rays or CT if necessary, before choosing whether or not to remove them.
