The meniscus damage scale generally needs to be discerned in through an MRI. The meniscus is a structure located inside the knee joint, on the articular surface of the tibia, that increases joint stability and acts as a cushion. Because it is inside the joint, damage to the meniscus can only be detected by means of tests such as an MRI. When the meniscus is damaged for the first time, high signals in the form of dots within the meniscus can be seen on the MRI, which is due to degeneration and slight damage to the meniscus; when the meniscus is damaged for the second time, high signals in the form of flakes within the meniscus can be seen on the MRI, but they have not yet completely penetrated and reached the edge of the meniscus. In third-degree meniscus injuries, a complete penetration of the meniscus into the joint cavity can be seen on the MRI. This level of meniscus injury requires arthroscopic surgery. If a meniscus injury is diagnosed, treat it under the supervision of a physician.
