Red and itchy sunburned arms, i.e. solar dermatitis, can be relieved by general treatment, physical therapy or medication.
1. General treatment: patients should get out of the sunburn environment, to the shade for follow-up treatment. When going out, do a good job of sun protection to avoid recurrence of the disease.
2. Physical therapy: cold towels or ice packs can be placed on the itchy and red places to reduce the nerve sensation of the affected skin, calm the skin, and relieve the symptoms of redness and itchiness.
3. Medication: Glycolite lotion can be applied to the affected area to protect and astringe the skin. If the situation is serious, you can also use glucocorticoid ointment, such as hydrocortisone ointment, Denadyl ointment, etc., to play the role of anti-inflammatory and anti-itching. If necessary, oral antihistamines such as cetirizine hydrochloride tablets can be prescribed.
Solar dermatitis should not scratch the affected area because of itching, to avoid skin breakage and aggravate the condition. If the itching continues to worsen or persists, it is recommended to go to the hospital for treatment, and the medication should follow the doctor’s instructions.
