What about cervicitis?

Inflammation of the cervix is one of the common gynecological conditions. The common clinical condition is chronic cervicitis. The main causative factors that cause cervicitis include: 1, mechanical stimulation or injury: about half of married women suffer from cervicitis, and sex has a certain relationship; in addition, childbirth, abortion, surgery, unclean intercourse, etc. caused by cervical injury is also the main cause of cervicitis. 2, the pathogen infection: mainly staphylococcus, streptococcus, E. coli and anaerobic bacteria, gonococcus, chlamydia trachomatis, herpes virus, human papilloma virus, etc., can also be secondary to trichomonas, pseudomonal yeast vaginitis. 3. Chemical stimulation: Highly concentrated acidic or alkaline solutions for vaginal douching, or the placement of highly corrosive medication tablets and suppositories can also cause inflammation. The actual medical term “cervical erosion” is known as “cervical columnar epithelial ectasia”. This is the case in most clinical cases of cervicitis. The normal surface of the ectocervix is covered with multiple layers of squamous epithelial cells and appears smooth to the naked eye. The mucosa of the cervical canal is covered with columnar epithelial cells. As estrogen changes in the body, the squamous epithelial cells of the ectocervix and the columnar epithelial cells of the mucous membrane of the cervical canal move away from each other. Therefore, in young women, due to the influence of estrogen, the columnar epithelium of the cervical canal migrates to the ectocervix and presents cervical congestion and “erosion”. Unmarried women with congenital cervical “erosion” account for 15% to 20%. To quote an expert, this “cervical columnar epithelial ectasia” is the capital of women’s youth. The cervical epithelial cells are gradually shed and replaced by columnar epithelial cells due to inflammatory stimulation, and the capillaries under the columnar epithelium are revealed, making the inflammatory area bright red. This name has now been abandoned. Whether the surface of the ectocervix is covered with compound squamous epithelial cells or columnar epithelial cells, they are all benign cells, not abnormal cells or cancerous cells. Therefore, no treatment is usually needed for such benign cervical changes. Annual routine TCT for cancer prevention is all that is needed. However, if the TCT result indicates abnormalities, further examination is needed to determine the extent of the lesion before deciding on a treatment plan. There are no effective medications to restore smoothness to the “erosion” surface of the cervix, except for physical therapy. Common treatments include laser therapy, cryotherapy, focused ultrasound, microwave therapy, and cervical irradiation. For cervicitis causing abnormalities, vaginal plugs may be considered to control the symptoms. Finally, we remind you that cervicitis does not usually affect fertility. Unless you suffer from infertility and common causes of infertility are ruled out, cervicitis affects the vaginal discharge during ovulation and will be treated by your doctor as appropriate.
