Oral ulcers do not usually cause ear pain. In case of herpes zoster caused by varicella-zoster virus infection, symptoms of both oral ulcers and ear pain may occur as follows. The oral mucosal lesions of herpes zoster are dense clusters of herpes, which break down to form ulcers or erosions that may be covered with a yellowish-white pseudomembrane and are painful. Infection of the geniculate ganglion by the herpes virus results in geniculate ganglion pain, which is characterized by paroxysmal tingling in one ear, the mastoid process, the external auditory canal, and deep in the tympanic membrane. There may be other reasons for the simultaneous appearance of mouth ulcers and ear pain symptoms, it is recommended to go to the hospital for timely consultation to clarify the cause of the disease and then targeted treatment.
