Treatment and care of acute tonsillitis

In the acute phase of tonsillitis, it is important to adhere to the treatment principle of anti-infective treatment as the mainstay and supportive treatment as a supplement. Drug therapy: Anti-infection therapy mainly targets the pathogenic bacteria to select effective antimicrobials. Penicillin is effective against the more common streptococcal infections and can be the drug of choice. However, in recent years, many bacteria have mutated and developed drug-resistant bacteria, and common penicillin may be ineffective, when more potent antimicrobials must be used to control inflammation. Very serious infections sometimes require hospitalization. The course of antimicrobial agents usually takes about 7 days. Supportive treatment: Encourage your baby to drink small amounts of water several times, eat a light and vitamin-rich diet, and eat more seasonal fruits such as watermelon and duck pears. For babies with poor appetite, little food and high fever, prevent dehydration, infuse fluids as appropriate and supplement vitamin C. If the body temperature exceeds 39℃, give the baby the right amount of antipyretic medicine. Family care: at the onset of the disease should be bed rest, drink more water to eliminate the toxins produced in the body after the bacterial infection; light salt water gargle several times a day to keep the mouth clean and odorless; baby’s body temperature is too high, should be physically cooled, with ice bags on the head and neck, can also use wine or low-concentration alcohol wipe the head and neck, axillae, limbs, to help heat dissipation, to prevent children from convulsions.
