What is acute tonsillitis?

It is an acute nonspecific inflammation of the palatine tonsils, often accompanied by varying degrees of inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa and other lymphoid tissues, and is a very common pharyngeal disease, often an acute episode of chronic tonsillitis. I. Etiology Streptococcus haemolyticus type B is the main causative agent of this disease. Clinical manifestations 1. Systemic symptoms: mostly seen in acute follicular and acute cryptic tonsillitis. The onset of the disease is rapid and may include chills, high fever, headache, decreased appetite, fatigue, body discomfort, constipation, etc. Pediatric patients may suffer from convulsions, vomiting and lethargy due to high fever. 2. Local symptoms: Sore throat is the main symptom, with severe sore throat, difficulty in swallowing, and pain often radiating to the ear. The lymphatic tautness in the jaw angle is large, and sometimes it is inconvenient to turn the head. In staphylococcal infection, the tonsils are enlarged more significantly, and in young children, it can also cause respiratory difficulties. The patient is acutely ill. The mucous membrane of the pharynx is diffusely congested, with the tonsils and the two palatal arches being the most serious. The palatine tonsils are enlarged, and yellow-white pus spots can be seen on their surface or yellow-white or gray-white pulp-like exudate at the mouth of the crypt, which can be connected into a pseudomembrane. Complications 1, local complications: due to the direct expansion of inflammation to adjacent tissues, most commonly peri-tonsillar abscess; can also cause acute otitis media, acute rhinitis and sinusitis, acute lymphadenitis, parapharyngeal abscess, etc. 2. Systemic complications: Acute tonsillitis can cause many diseases in various systems of the body, including rheumatic fever, acute arthritis, myocarditis and acute nephritis, whose pathogenesis is still being explored. The treatment 1, general therapy: bed rest, into the liquid diet and drink more water, to enhance nutrition and loose stool, sore throat or high fever, can take oral antipyretics and analgesics. 2.Antibiotic application: the main treatment method. 3, local treatment: commonly used nebulized inhalation and compound borax solution, mouth gargle, etc. 4.Surgical treatment: If there are repeated episodes of acute tonsillitis, tonsillectomy should be performed after the acute inflammation subsides.
