Spleen and stomach are both important organs in the human body, spleen and stomach are mutually complementary, in the water and grain transportation, qi lifting and lowering, yin and yang, dryness and dampness and other aspects of coordination. The spleen and stomach also influence each other pathologically. 1. The Stomach is the receptor and the Spleen is the transporter (the Spleen has the function of digesting food, absorbing food essence and water and transferring it to the whole body): the Stomach receives food and the Spleen transporters the essence of the food, together completing the digestion and absorption of the food. 2. Stomach qi is responsible for descending and spleen qi is responsible for ascending: when stomach qi descends, the water and grains and their dregs are allowed to go downward and then excreted; when spleen qi ascends, the essence of water and grains is allowed to be transmitted and distributed for the needs of the body. 3. The spleen is a yin organ, the stomach is a yang viscera: the spleen relies on yang qi transportation, the stomach relies on yin fluid moisturizing, the two yin and yang dry and wet with the normal function of the spleen and stomach, dietary water and grain can be digested and absorbed. Spleen and stomach in the pathology is also a mutual influence, such as the spleen for the wet trapped, can affect the stomach’s acceptance and surrender, which can lead to vomiting, nausea, epigastric (abdominal) distension, loss of appetite and other conditions. If the stomach fails to harmonize and descend (obstruction of the stomach’s function to pass and descend), it can also affect the spleen’s ability to elevate and clear the air and transport it, resulting in abdominal distension and diarrhea. Patients are advised to consult a doctor if they feel unwell.
