Micro Implant Anchorage (MIA) is a temporary device implanted in the oral cavity to strengthen the orthodontic support and improve the orthodontic efficacy, which can be removed by the doctor in the middle or after the orthodontic treatment under sterile condition. The success of implantation depends mainly on the patient’s oral condition and the surgeon’s implantation technique, and the patient’s close cooperation and careful self-care are also very important. In order to improve the success rate of MIA implantation and minimize the rate of dislodgement, please pay attention to the following matters: 1. Maintain good oral hygiene and psychological state before surgery. Two weeks before surgery, listen to the doctor’s arrangement for the necessary oral cleaning and pay attention to personal oral hygiene care, so that the oral mucosa and gums are in a healthy state; at the same time, maintain a good state of mind, trust your doctor, and do not be overly nervous. 2. On the day of implantation, you should eat on time to avoid hypoglycemia and other conditions that may cause syncope before anesthesia and prevent the surgery from proceeding smoothly. If you have a history of anesthetic allergy and systemic disease, be sure to take the initiative to inform your doctor before the operation to reduce the risk of the anesthesia process. Female patients should avoid the physiological period. 3. During the operation, you should cooperate closely with the doctor and listen to the arrangement of the medical staff. If you are uncomfortable, you can raise your left hand to indicate, and do not move around during the operation and affect the operation of the doctor. 4.After the surgery, the anesthesia effect may disappear and there may be a brief and slight discomfort, generally no oral painkillers are needed; if the pain persists and does not subside, or even worsens when chewing, please consult a doctor in time. 5. After the operation, you should do a good job of routine oral cleaning. Rinse with chlorhexidine mouthwash three times a day for 90 s for two weeks after the operation; if possible, you can buy a dental flosser to do a good job of local cleaning of the implant. After implantation, hard food is forbidden, and avoid impacting the implant when brushing. In general, make a follow-up appointment two weeks after surgery to check the condition of the implant and increase the force as appropriate. 6. For patients with assisted MIA implantation in the mandibular molar area, oral antibiotics are sometimes required for 2-3 days to reduce the chance of infection. 7. Postoperative discomfort may be caused by repeated friction between the implant nail cap and the buccal mucosa of the mouth, but most patients can adapt within 1-2 weeks. A few patients have local ulcers in the corresponding areas, which usually heal themselves within 1 week, and can buy orthodontic mucosal wax to protect the oral mucosa on the nail cap. 8. Due to the difference of individual oral condition and bone density, MIA may occur unpredictable pre-exfoliation or loosening. If this happens, you need to take the initiative to contact your doctor in time to remove the implant nail and reimplant it at a later date.
