What to do about liver metastasis after colon cancer surgery

Postoperative liver metastasis of colon cancer needs to be determined according to the condition. For liver metastasis that can be safely resected, surgery can be chosen; some inoperable liver metastasis can be operated through chemotherapy; inoperable liver metastasis can be treated with interventional therapy, systemic chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy, and so on.

1. All liver metastases that can be safely resected after colon cancer surgery can be operated, and about 20% of patients with liver metastases can be operated by this standard.

2. Oxaliplatin or irinotecan-based chemotherapy can make patients with inoperable liver metastases have the chance of surgery, and preoperative chemotherapy can increase the chance of success of surgery.

3. For patients with inoperable liver metastases, systemic chemotherapy can be administered, assisted by hepatic artery intervention (chemoembolization), and combined with targeted and immunotherapy if necessary.

For liver metastasis after colon cancer surgery, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time for diagnosis and treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
