Elephantiasis, usually referred to as lower limb lymphedema, is one of the clinical symptoms of filariasis. Patients with lower limb lymphedema in the early stage of filariasis can be completely cured, while patients with lower limb lymphedema in the late stage of filariasis are usually difficult to be completely cured. If lymphoedema of the lower limbs occurs in the early stage of filariasis, patients can follow the doctor’s instructions to use ethamizine citrate tablets, doxycycline hydrochloride tablets, albendazole tablets and other medicines to kill the filarial worms, and if necessary, can be surgically transplanted through the skin to achieve the purpose of cure. If lymphoedema of the lower limbs occurs in the late stage of filariasis, patients in the advanced stage of the disease are more likely to have high fever, hematuria, chills and other infectious complications, and the serious cases may be life-threatening. Symptoms can generally be relieved by medication or surgery, but it is more difficult to cure completely. The earlier the diagnosis and treatment, the better the prognosis of filariasis. Therefore, it is recommended that filariasis patients with lymphoedema of the lower limbs should consult a doctor in time and follow the instructions of professional doctors for appropriate treatment.
