Can some items be left out of a physical exam?



It is possible not to do some items in the physical examination, depending on the purpose of the physical examination.

1. If it is a physical examination for entry into a job, you can choose the physical examination items according to the requirements of the organization.

2. If it is your own physical examination, you can reasonably choose the physical examination items according to your age, physical condition and underlying diseases, not to be large and comprehensive.

3. Usually the physical examination program mainly includes basic information, physical examination, test items and inspection items.

(1) Basic information mainly includes personal history, family history and so on.

(2) Physical examination mainly includes height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, heart and lung auscultation, liver and spleen palpation.

(3) Tests mainly include the three major routines of blood, urine and feces; biochemical items such as blood glucose, blood lipids, liver function, renal function, electrolytes, blood uric acid, etc.; and special items such as the complete set of infectious diseases, rheumatism series and tumor markers.

(4) Examination mainly includes ultrasound and imaging, ultrasound mainly includes abdominal ultrasound, cardiac ultrasound, thyroid ultrasound, ultrasound of the urinary tract and uterine adnexa, etc.; imaging mainly includes chest X-ray, chest and abdominal CT.

Physical examination programs are ultimately determined by the purpose of the physical examination and one’s own situation.
