Difference between nasal regurgitation and postnasal drip

There is no substantial difference between nasal regurgitation and postnasal drip, both describe the process of increased secretions caused by nasal and sinus diseases that flow from the nose through the nasopharynx and into the throat cavity. The main diseases that cause such features are chronic simple rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, and allergic rhinitis. Patients often manifest cough, cough sputum, throat itching, pharyngeal foreign body sensation or burning sensation.
1. Chronic simple rhinitis: due to the chronic inflammation of nasal mucosa, resulting in increased secretion, especially the chronic inflammation of the posterior part of the nasal cavity, which often causes secretion to flow backward into the nasopharynx.
2. Chronic sinusitis: nasal secretions are mainly caused by chronic inflammation of the sinuses, and flow backward into the nasopharynx. Among them, especially in the case of butterfly sinusitis and sieve sinusitis, secretions are more likely to flow backward.
3. Allergic rhinitis: after contact with allergens, a large amount of watery secretion appears in the nose, which can easily cause the secretion to flow backwards.
After the occurrence of such symptoms, you need to actively seek medical treatment, systematic examination to clarify the diagnosis, and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
