Is it better to have bile-sparing surgery or removal of gallbladder polyps?

Gallbladder polyps can be observed if there are no risk factors for malignancy; if there are risk factors and symptoms, surgery to remove the gallbladder is required. People with gallbladder polyps usually don’t have too many obvious symptoms, and most people discover them during a physical exam. A small percentage of people can experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and nausea. Some patients have risk factors that can make gallbladder polyps cancerous. There are many risk factors for gallbladder polyps, including the combination of gallbladder stones, gradual increase in the size of the polyp, single wide-base gallbladder polyp, and polyp diameter of 1cm or more. If patients do not have the above risk factors and obvious symptoms, they do not need surgery and can be observed by regular physical examination; if patients have the above risk factors and also obvious symptoms, they need to undergo surgery to remove the gallbladder. The surgery can be done laparoscopically. Please seek medical attention if you feel unwell.
