Is IOP 25 high?

IOP is the pressure generated by the contents of the eye acting on the inner wall of the eye. Under normal circumstances the average IOP should be between 8 and 21 mmHg, so an IOP value of 25 mmHg is higher than normal. But whether this IOP value needs to be treated or not depends on the specific situation, and not everyone needs to be treated. If the IOP is 25 mmHg and has produced signs of optic nerve damage, such as loss of vision and visual field defects, it needs to be treated as early as possible, which is the basis for the diagnosis of glaucoma. However, if the IOP value is 25 mmHg and there is no sign of optic nerve damage, the condition is called hypertension and does not require treatment and can be followed up regularly. Therefore, if the IOP is at 25 mmHg, other tests for glaucoma need to be completed to clarify whether treatment is needed.
